Words matter. Language shapes learning—and lives. The way we speak to students, to one another, and even to ourselves carries tremendous power. That’s why we’re launching “Words Matter,” a July-long series exploring how the words we use can spark possibility, nurture growth, and build more inclusive and empowered communities.
We’re starting with one of our favorite ideas:
The Power of Yet.
You may have heard it before:
“I can’t do this... yet.”
“I don’t understand... yet.”
“I haven’t figured it out... yet.”
That single word—yet—turns a dead end into a doorway. It signals potential, not permanence. It tells students (and adults!) that growth is possible and that effort matters. And it’s a powerful example of how language can foster a growth mindset—a belief that abilities and intelligence can develop through dedication, support, and practice.
Throughout July, we’ll highlight simple, intentional ways to reframe language in our programs, classrooms, and communities to build confidence, resilience, and connection. From how we give feedback to how we talk about challenges, we’ll share tools, stories, and reflections to help every learner feel capable and inspired.
Because at AllSet, we believe:
🌟 Words build us up.
🌟 Learning is a journey.
🌟 Growth is a mindset.
And every child deserves to be seen not just for who they are now—but for all they can become.
Let’s choose words that Grow it. Know it. Show it.
